TPD Memorial run/walk downtown Tampa this weekend

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The 19th annual Tampa Police Memorial 5K/1Mile Run Walk kicks off this Saturday in downtown Tampa.

Organizers are expecting 1400 participants to show up for the event. It starts at 8 a.m., but the organizers encourage everybody to arrive early if they haven't already pre-registered.

Runners and walkers will start at TPD's headquarters at 411 N. Franklin Street and wind their way down the waterfront of Bayshore Boulevard.

Registration packets with shirts can be picked up Friday until 7:00 p.m. in front of the headquarters. Participants can also grab them the morning of the race.

WFLA News Channel 8's Gayle Guyardo will emcee the ceremonies before the event kicks off. Assistant Chief John Newman who's also part of the kick off event, was practicing his trumpet in Gas Light Park, getting ready to play for the crowds.
