NCDA offers reminder that farmers markets are open

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Officials with the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services are reminding people that many of the state's farmers markets are open during the fall.

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said the four state-operated farmers markets in Asheville, Charlotte, Colfax and Raleigh are open all year, as are many farmers markets operated by counties, cities and towns.

Visitors to farmers markets should find N.C. apples through the winter. In addition, they will find a good selection of tomatoes, corn, squash, sweet potatoes and a variety of greens into October. Markets are also a great source for Halloween and fall decorations.

Consumers can use the department's N.C. Farm Fresh directory, which provides information on product availability, location and hours of operations for farmers markets, pick-your-own farms and roadside stands across the state.
