McCrory celebrates IT 'innovation center'

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Gov. Pat McCrory and his cabinet celebrated a major advancement in the state's effort to improve information technology Thursday.

McCrory helped open North Carolina's new innovation center.

The iCenter is a working lab in downtown Raleigh where government workers and the private sector will collaborate on IT solutions.

The high-tech space is on the ground floor of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

"We are going to use this center as an economic development tool to recruit and retain new businesses," McCrory said of an added benefit of the center.

The governor also said this project is part of an effort to test technology before the state commits to investing in more of it.
