St. Pete detectives announce arrest in cold homicide case

Posted: Updated:
ST PETERSBURG, FL - St. Petersburg Police detectives made an arrest in 2005 cold case homicide, the department announced Thursday afternoon.

In May 2005 police found the body of Sara Lynn Wineski, 49, near the old Ronald McDonald House on 8th Avenue in St. Petersburg. Detectives determined she had been sexually assaulted and strangled. A resident at the house heard screams around 11 that night, according to the police report.

Investigators recovered DNA evidence at the crime scene. They linked the murder to an Ohio inmate Raymond Samuels. He visited St. Petersburg in 2005, detectives said.

Samuels was imprisoned in 2006 in Ohio on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping, according to the police records. He is being extradited back to Florida and transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
