HUDSON, FL -

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the 4-year-old girl hit by a car in Hudson on Wednesday afternoon has died. Troopers say she was run over by her mother when she was backing out of a driveway.

Investigators said Cathy Jo Ivancsits was backing up, when her husband, David Ivancsits stopped her to talk. Troopers say during their brief conversation, their daughter, Michelle got out of the SUV and walked to the front of the vehicle. Officials say Ivancsits accelerated forward, running over her daughter.

The child was transported in critical condition to Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point, according to Pasco County Sheriff deputies, but Florida Highway Patrol Spokesperson Steve Gaskins has confirmed that the girl has passed away.

The accident happened just after 4 p.m. on the 14000 block of Flowers Drive in Hudson.
