ALE agents: convenience store employee sold synthetic pot to customers

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Synthetic cannabis is marketed as a legal high and is popular among teenagers.

On Wednesday, an employee at College Beverage on Hillsborough Street, across from North Carolina State University, was charged with selling a synthetic cannabinoid, according to Alcohol Law Enforcement documents.

Mahadev Prasad, 50, of Cary, was arrested by state ALE agents, who said they watched him sell synthetic pot to a customer on Sept. 16. He then sold the drug to agents within two days.

According to ALE documents, "In the first transaction, [an agent] saw a patron nod at the employee and then ask the employee to bring out different types. After a couple of minutes, the employee returned from a back room in the establishment with several packets of synthetic cannabinoids and allowed the patron to select a packet for $40."

The next time, the report said the agent "went in the establishment and asked for a particular packet. The employee went to a back room in the store, returned with the packet and charged [the agent] $40."

Prasad is charged with selling a synthetic cannabinoid and felony possession of a synthetic cannabinoid.
