Prescription Drugs Summit to be held this week at ETSU

Prescription drug abuse is one of the top public health and crime concerns in the Tri-Cities Region.

Wednesday and Thursday, top law enforcement, health care, and academic leaders will gather at East Tennessee State University for what's billed as 
"An Appalachian Regional Summit on Prescription Drug Abuse".

The event will begin Wednesday at 8 a.m. in the  D.P. Culp University Center Auditorium,

Opening remarks will come from ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland, and attendees will hear from U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder via a video message.

The agenda begins with comments from Regina LaBelle, the chief of staff for President Obama's Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Speakers and panel discussion participants will include United States attorneys from Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia as well as ETSU faculty members and representatives from the Tennessee Department of Health.
