GREENE COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

A stabbing happened at South Greene High School this morning, that's according to Greene County investigators and officials at Greene County Schools.

According to Greene County Director of Schools Dr. Vicki Kirk, one male student stabbed another. Greene County Sheriff Steve Burns says investigators charged that student with attempted first degree murder. Dr. Kirk says the student who was assaulted went to the hospital and he is in stable condition. Deputies took the other student into custody, according to dispatchers. Dispatchers also said they sent a medical helicopter to the scene of the incident.

Kirk said this all happened before school started. According to Kirk, South Greene High School is no longer on lock down and that there is no current danger at the school.

Kirk says investigators are still at the school. She also says there are counselors at the school to help students out.

Kirk says the school system will not release the students' names right now and she doesn't know what the motive was for the stabbing.
