CHARLOTTE, N.C. -

The Charlotte chapter of the NAACP wants more oversight of Charlotte police after an officer's arrest on charges he fatally shot an unarmed man.

During a rally on Saturday, President Kojo Nantambu said that a board that reviews citizen complaints against officers needs to have more authority.

The rally was held to remember Jonathan Ferrell. Authorities say the 24-year-old was shot 10 times earlier this month by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Officer Randall Kerrick.

Police have said Ferrell may have been seeking help after a car wreck when he went to a home and knocked on the door, frightening a woman into calling 911 because she thought he was trying to break in.

Kerrick is charged with voluntary manslaughter.
