Man strangles girlfriend while driving, crashes Jeep

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -

Johnson City Police say a man wrecked his jeep while allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

Police arrested Jimmy D. Moffitt on Tuesday on an outstanding warrant for driving on a revoked license, aggravated assault-domestic, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Officers say Moffit's arrest is the result of investigation into a crash that happened on September 4, 2013.

Police say Moffitt got into an argument with his girlfriend while driving. Police say Moffitt then strangled his girlfriend around the neck with a necklace she was wearing then lost control of the Jeep. Officer say Moffitt then fled the scene of the wreck.

Moffitt is currently being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.
