Think you've got what it takes to take home the coveted title of Jonesborough's best chili?
The Jonesborough Area Merchants and Services Assoc. is now accepting entries for its 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off on Sun., Oct. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at Storytelling Park, just behind the International Storytelling Center.
Entry rules include:
•Chili must be cooked from scratch at home or an alternate location.
•Teams must produce 5 gallons of chili for judging and public tasting. Sides to compliment chili are allowed.
•Teams will be expected to bring their chili entries hot and ready to eat. Teams will be provided with a chafing dish and stern to keep their chili hot and to serve out of. No electricity will be provided.
•Teams may provide a pop up canopy tent and chairs if they desire. *Chafer, stern, one table, spoons and napkins for tasting will be provided.
•Booth set up begins at 10 a.m. with judging at 11:30 a.m. The event opens to the public at noon on Sun., Oct. 13.
•Entries will be judged on taste, color, aroma, consistency and aftertaste. Prizes will be given in three categories Chili Champion, People's Choice and Best Booth Decorations.
Other activities to take place during the Jonesborough Chili Cook-Off include a children's area, family storytelling, craft vendors, chili joke contest, and live music. Craft beer and other food items will also be available for purchase.
A limited number of chili cook-off entries will be accepted through Oct. 4 for $20 and $10 for members of JAMSA. Proceeds will benefit the Jonesborough Area Merchants & Services Assoc. and Jonesborough Area Ministerial Assoc.
