TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A head-on collision at Morris Bridge Road and Pictoral Park Drive in North Tampa closed southbound lanes of the Morris Bridge Road for hours.

Detectives said, the accident happened about 4 a.m. Friday when a Honda Accord going north on Morris Bridge Road, drove off the road, crossed the safety zone and hit Ford Explorer driving south.

The cars collided head on. Hillsborough County Fire Heavy Rescue Unit crews extricated the Honda driver out of the car. Rita Marie Sutliff, 69, of Zephyrhills, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paramedics took Kunjummen Arun Babu, who was driving the Ford, to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Hillsborough detectives are investigating the crash. Pasco deputies were on scene in the morning helping with traffic control.

Detectives said, both drivers were wearing seat belts, going about 50 miles per hour. According to the report, drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.

Officials haven't filed any charges yet. They continue to investigate.
