Pinellas may change ambulance policy at games

Posted: Updated:
CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) -

Ambulances may soon park close to Pinellas County high school football stadiums on game nights in case paramedics need to respond to on-field medical emergencies.

The school district's director of physical education made suggestions to the school board Thursday about how to improve treating game injuries.

The Tampa Tribune reports the suggestions came after a student was knocked out cold last month during a football game. The teen was motionless on the field while his mother and teammates waited about five minutes for an ambulance to arrive.

That sparked concerned parents to reopen the debate on why the school district doesn't station an ambulance and paramedics at each game. In 2004 the district eliminated sideline ambulances and paramedics because of the cost.
