PASCO COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

A grandmother found spent bullets and something that looked like an explosive in her 17-year-old grandson's bags. She called Pasco Sheriff's office Wednesday.

Deputies evacuated them and the bomb squad safely removed the devices from the home at 11941 Smith Boulevard in Hudson. Deputies arrested Robert Lucien Houle III for planting of hoax bomb.

His grandmother and legal guardian Bonnie Houle, 58, told deputies, the boy had been disrespectful and argumentative lately. She said he promised to shoot her and her husband if he had a gun, according to the PCSO report.

She found the spent bullets in his school bag and checked his room. There she discovered a device that looked like a grenade or an explosive in a gym bag in her grandson's closet, deputies said.

The device had two fuses on top and bottom and electrical tape wrapped around it. That's when the grandma called the deputies.

She said the teen didn't have a journal and didn't make any threats about explosions.

The boy told deputies he made the device himself and was going to blow it up in the backyard. When deputies interviewed him, he denied he was a part of any gang or a terrorist group. He mentioned to them he had inspirations to become a Marine when he grew up.

Houle was charged with felonies for planting a hoax bomb and destructive device and making and possessing a destructive device.

Deputies took Houle to the Juvenile Assessment Center at the Land O' Lakes county jail.
