Suspect named in Bradenton Olympic medal theft

Posted: Updated:
BRADENTON, FL (WFLA) -

The Bradenton Police Department has named a suspect in last Wednesday's theft of an Olympic gold medal from a Bradenton apartment complex.

Police have named 22-year-old Allen Jeffrey Nichols of Bradenton the suspect after they said they have received a number of tips from the public.

Police said they obtained an arrest warrant for Nichols on Wednesday and they are currently looking for him.

The gold medal was reported stolen from a car parked in a Bradenton apartment complex, according to police.

Demetrius Pinder, a track and field Olympian, told police someone took his gold medal, valued at $42,000, from the center console of his car.

Pinder's car was parked in the 4600 block of 66th Street West. He won the medal with the Bahamas 4x400m relay team during the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Pinder told police when he got into his car last Wednesday morning; he noticed papers from his console on his passenger's seat. When he checked inside the console, his 24-karat gold medal was gone.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-634-8477.
