Update: Body found in Meriwether County is missing Harris County woman

SHILOH, Ga. -

UPDATE: Officials confirmed the body found in a makeshift grave in Meriwether County is the missing woman from Harris County.

Meriwether County Coroner Johnny Worley said he confirmed Friday morning that the body belongs to 63-year-old Annie Belle Jarrett, who was reported missing from her Shiloh home early Tuesday. Worley said medical records and previous bone fractures were used to positively identify Jarrett.

A cause of death has not been released yet.

On Wednesday, Jarrett's boyfriend was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm. GBI officials said he is still be considered a suspect in Jarrett's disappearance and murder.

ORIGINAL STORY: Authorities dug up a body in Meriwether County on Wednesday afternoon. 

Early Wednesday morning, deputies with the Harris County and the Meriwether County Sheriff's Office responded to Crawford Creek Road in Pine Mountain, Ga. in regard to information received of a possible location of a missing person. They found a body buried in a "makeshift grave" and transported the body by ambulance at about 3:30 Wednesday afternoon. Officials believe, but have not confirmed, the body belongs to Annie Belle Jarrett.

Jarrett was reported missing near Shiloh, Georgia on Tuesday by a friend who she normally car-pools with. The friend said Jarrett never showed up for her 5:30a et pickup.

One person is in custody while authorities question him. The man being questioned is Jarrett's boyfriend and he at one point lived in the house where they found the body, which is owned by one of his family members, according to GBI Special Agent Wayne Smith. Officials believe they are close to making an arrest.

"We've made a lot of progress in that length of time as far as who may be involved," said Smith. "We'll have to do an autopsy, we'll have to get the evidence from the crime lab, and I'm not sure what the duration will be, but it's moving along very well."

Jarrett's sister, Jeanette Turner, tells News 3 she always knew where her sister was and it was very strange for her to go missing. She found out Wednesday morning the body they found most likely is her sister's.

"It's a tragedy," says Turner. "We were so close, she was always over at my home."

Jarrett is also the sister of Jesse Lee Ellison, the Shiloh mayor.

The case is still under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Meriwether County Sheriff's Office and the Meriwether County Coroner's Office. Officials say at this time a positive identification has not been made of the victim in this matter. This will be conducted at the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta.
