MONROE, NC -

A Union County teacher is facing charges after police in Monroe said she was involved in a sexual relationship with a student, WCNC reports.

Investigators received a call Sept. 10 about an inappropriate relationship involving a teacher and a 16-year-old student at Union Academy Charter School, police said.

Investigators said Diana Leigh Farnell, 28, was charged with one count of sex offenses with a student after an investigation.

A warrant for her arrest was issued on Sept. 11.

Farnell turned herself in to the Monroe Police Department and was taken to the Union County Jail Thursday.

Farnell was placed under a $10,000 secured bond and scheduled to appear in court on November 7.

The investigation is ongoing and could potentially result in additional charges being followed.

Farnell's profile had been removed from Union Academy Charter School's web page.
