It's been an idea tossed around for decades.

A new way to get drivers from Bristol to Interstate 81.

This, after the Bristol Tennessee Council unanimously voted to conduct a feasibility study.

The idea is to have a new road that would connect the Volunteer Parkway to exit 74 on I-81.

Mayor Michelle Dolan says the road would allow easier access to Bristol Regional Medical Center and the Pinnacle hopping center.

"It could be a collaboration between the state, the county, city and the hospitals so it could be really exciting to get the results of that study back to see where we stand," said Mayor Dolan.

The resolution is now headed to the state .

If the study is approved, engineers would have to study if the connection and construction is feasible.
