Crews rescue man who fell inside a ship in Tampa

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A man fell down a flight of stairs inside a ship docked in Tampa Wednesday morning which required a heavy rescue unit to come help him out, officials said.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue units responded to the 4800 block of Port Sutton Road about 8 a.m. Firefighters dispatched the Heavy Rescue unit to help extract the patient from inside the engine compartment of the ship.

HCFR officials said this was a ground level fall, but the man was about 60 feet deep inside the ship. They said he was in good condition. Crews used a hauling system and a fire truck to get him out.

It took the rescue crews about two hours to help the man. Paramedics were with the patient the entire time to evaluate his condition. They took the man to a hospital in fair condition for treatment.
