ST. PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) -

A standing-room only crowd jammed into the University Student Center on the USF St. Petersburg campus for a debate between incumbent St. Petersburg mayor Bill Foster and his challenger Rick Kriseman on Tuesday night.

Unlike previous debates, this one allowed for some back and forth, like in an exchange about the candidate's records.

"He spent 6 years in Tallahassee and didn't accomplish a thing," said Foster about Kriseman's time as a legislator.

Kriseman shot back, "It would have been nice during my six years that I was in Tallahassee if Mr. Foster had been up there every session during his term in office."

Mention the Rays, and Mayor Foster gets a little feisty.

"I'm gonna fight to make sure that the Rays meet their obligations to you the taxpayer, who has skin in the game who brought them here," said Foster.

Rick Kriseman's rebuttal:  "Unfortunately, the Rays have lost faith in Mr. Foster and that's part of the reason we haven't made any progress."

If people who attended the debate expected the candidates to take their gloves off, they left disappointed.  It was mostly a polite affair.

Voters will decide on November 5th.
