Texas teen rescues family from sinking boat

LUBBOCK, TX (WFLA) -

A teenager from Sudan, Texas, rescued a drowning family on Buffalo Springs Lake, KCBD reported.

Natalee Olivarez, 16, was with her family on the lake, when she saw a boat in the middle of the lake overtaken by waves.

"The first thing I saw was a man holding a baby and the baby was going under," Olivarez told KCBD.

Olivarez said she tried to get to the first person she could. It was a 2-year-old baby that she took from a woman in the water. Than she helped another boy and a girl.

Olivarez has a reflex sympathetic dystrophy, a chronic pain disease. But she said the pain stopped just a few months ago after treatments, according to the KCBD story.

"I believe that God put me in the right place at the right time and gave me the strength and courage to jump in the water to help pull the people out," she told KCBD about the rescue.
