ST PETERSBURG, FL -

Busy working mom Tish Robinson says a new pediatric clinic in downtown St. Petersburg is exactly what she's been looking for.

She took her son to the clinic to get a physical before he starts VPK, and she loved it.

"I work downtown and this is downtown," Robinson said. "It's also on my way to taking him to speech therapy. It's perfect."

At the clinic, run by the Florida Department of Health, kids can get everything they would from a standard provider. Dr. Juliet Soscia Collins, a Pediatrician at the clinic, says she wants to focus on prevention.

"We're not only treating them when they're sick but checking for things to keep them well," Collins said. "We keep them up to date on immunizations and ask questions about nutrition."

Collins says busy parents, especially those with financial problems, skip the check-ups. And those can be the most important visits.

"At least they don't have to worry that  'I can't take my child to the doctor because I'm uninsured," Collins said. "We're here to provide that service for them."

Robinson says she appreciates the affordability and accessibility of the clinic.

"They can put you on a sliding scale," Robinson said. "They take your insurance, they do whatever they can to make it affordable."
