Millbrook kicks off 'Friday Blitz' morning pep rally

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

You might not think high school students would be full of enthusiasm before daybreak, but that wasn't the case Friday morning as Millbrook students turned out in force at WNCN Today's first morning pep rally of the season at the school.

WNCN anchor Page Crawford was on the scene with the Wildcats to get Friday football off to a rousing start. The "Millbrook Maniacs" came out in force to cheer along with the band and cheerleaders. Other supporters included students, faculty, various Millbrook sports teams, and even neighbors who came out to support their local school.

Millbrook also shined the spotlight on Sam Blue, WNCN's "This Kid Rocks."  Blue, a three sport stand-out was named the Raleigh Sports Council's "Player of the Week" in addition to other accolades and awards he's received this season.

Millbrook plays Knightdale at home tonight at 7 p.m. This season Millbrook High School is supporting "Pretty in Pink," a non-profit that provides financial support to women going through breast cancer treatments. Look for the pink t-shirts for sale at all home games this year.

WNCN's coverage of high school football continues tonight with the popular Friday Blitz show with sports director Todd Gibson.

WNCN plans to shoot multiple games, including:

  • Jordan at Enloe
  • Garner at Cleveland
  • Wake Forest at East Wake
  • Fuquay-Varina at Riverside
  • Hillside at Southern Durham
  • 71st at Terry Sanford
  • Knightdale at Millbrook

The show airs tonight at 11:15 p.m.

WNCN Today visits a school in the market every Friday to build enthusiasm for the high school football season.
