Polk fugitive caught

Posted: Updated:
FROSTPROOF, FL (WFLA) -

The Polk County Sheriff's Office and the US Marshals Office have arrested 21-year-old Eleno Suarez on Thursday night in Frostproof. Law enforcement has been looking for Suarez since he shot at deputies on Aug. 3.

Deputies said they received a tip on Thursday that Suarez might be in a home on Pearl Hopson Road in Frostproof. Deputies and agents said when they responded to the address, three people who were in the home, refused to cooperate and denied that Suarez was there.

Detectives found Suarez hiding under a bed in the home. Suarez refused to comply with deputies' commands to surrender, and was apprehended by a PCSO canine. Suarez was taken into custody and transported to Lake Wales Medical Center to be treated for the dog bite wounds.

Deputies said they arrested three other people who were in the home for obstruction of justice. Deputies did not release their names on Thursday night.

Deputies had been looking through a tri-county area in Polk, Highlands, and Hardee counties searching for Suarez.

Deputies say Suarez fired at deputies during a chase on Aug. 3, and had been on the run ever since.

Suarez was wanted for an armed home invasion robbery and carjacking in Frostproof.

On Aug. 3, he was spotted near a Frostproof convenience store at the intersection of US Highway 27 and US Highway 98. Deputies say, he and five individuals fled the area in a Ford Focus.

Polk deputies attempted a traffic stop but Suarez, who was driving, led them on a chase and fired multiple shots at the deputies. No one was injured.

Suarez lost control of the car in a rural area near State Road 64 and US 98 in Hardee County. Deputies caught the five passengers but Suarez fled on foot, according to investigators.

Along with his previous charges, Suarez now faces a charge of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
