ST. PETE BEACH, FL -

A motorcycle driver hit a median on a St. Pete Beach road and was thrown off his motorcycle, but survived the crash, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

According to the FHP report, Earl W. Pruitt Sr., 60, was leaving a parking lot near Blind Pass Road soon past 11 p.m. Wednesday. He pulled on to the road and started going north in the southbound lane.

He tried to change lanes but hit the median and was thrown off his 2000 Harley Davidson, FHP troopers said.

The driver was not wearing a helmet, troopers said. Paramedics took him to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

FHP are investigating this single-vehicle crash. Troopers haven't determined yet if alcohol was a factor.
