Marine asks Miley Cyrus to Marine Corps Ball

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WFLA) -

A North Carolina Marine is on a special mission to get controversial pop singer Miley Cyrus to go with him to his final Marine Corps ball.

Sergeant Jay Owings started the campaign with a YouTube video that he posted on Tuesday. Owings is stationed at Camp Lejeune.

The marine says he thinks Cyrus is "awesome despite what anyone else says," and that the pop singer has his love.

The Marine Corps Ball on November 7th. He will be discharged on November 15th so this is going to be his last ball. He has been in the marines for the past seven years.

The Ball will be held at the Greenville Convention Center. That is the same location where Sgt. Scott Moore attended the ball with Mila Kunis in 2011.
