Fast food blogger compares ads to reality

Posted: Updated:

One California blogger is frustrated with fast food.

You've likely seen the commercials where fast food chains promote their tasty tacos and mouth-watering burgers.

But one blogger says what you see in advertisements does not always reflect what you may get at your nearest drive-thru.

According to KNBC, "It started with a fast-food taco run in late 2010 when Dario Dinatale peered into his to-go bag and found the 99-cent tacos looked nothing like what he'd hoped for."

It prompted Dinatale to conduct a test. He brought the food home and took pictures of each item. He then posted photos of the items in a side-by-side comparison, allowing folks to see how the advertised photo of the item looks against one he actually purchased at various locations.

"The result? A sad display of disparities between big-money ads and how they're served to customers," according to KNBC.

In his experiment, Dinatale said he was focused on the size, noting "I don't care if my lettuce isn't arrange like the crown on Ceasar's head."

He added, "I have to show the most attractive angles of the food, with lighting identical to the ads."

Despite the findings, the blogger said "the results of my project were unsurprising… which shouldn't be a surprise."
