FL couple arrested after using child to help rob businesses

Posted: Updated:

A Florida couple has been arrested, accused of using a child to help them rob two Clearwater Beach businesses.

A viewer called police with a tip about the couple after watching a segment about them on the news Tuesday evening.

Police arrested Julio Angel Torres, 31, and Janet M. Soto, 37, at the Sunrise Bowling Center in St. Petersburg Tuesday evening.

The two asked their 10-year-old son stash stolen goods in their 2-year-old's stroller at Ron Jon Surf Shop and bring them purses with credit cards and IDs from the Hooters' storage room as they waited, according to the police report.

Torres and Soto are in jail on charges of two counts of grand theft, burglary, credit card fraud and felony child neglect. Torres faces probation violation, police said.

The Department of Children and Families took both kids into custody.

Clearwater Police would like to thank everybody who helped look for the couple. They say there may be more charges in this case as they investigate.
