According to the SPPD report, Carlos Green, who ended up in the alley behind 1610 27th St. South, had a 9mm semi-automatic and a towel on his face when he tried to commit a robbery Sunday evening near Fairfield Avenue.

But his victims were also armed.  Police say Aaron McKenzie, 32, had a 40-caliber handgun, and shot at Green in self-defense.

Detectives believe Green died at the scene.  Police say McKenzie and others were dealing drugs on the property where the shooting happened, so they decided to move Green's body to an alley.

On the drive back, reports show McKenzie almost hit a police cruiser because the lights of the truck were out.  Officer Larson, who was in that cruiser, avoided the collision and followed the truck.

McKenzie tried to resist arrest, but police say Larson finally handcuffed him, although Larson's right hand was broken in the process.

McKenzie was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on charges of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting with Violence and Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding.

He was about to bond out when detectives discovered his alleged connection to Green's death.  SPD detectives will consult the Pinellas/Pasco State Attorney's office on any charges for this case.
