Tampa overpass damaged in hit & run

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A tractor trailer with a crane on its flatbed hit and damaged an Interstate 275 overpass, and kept going, Florida Highway patrol troopers say.

According to the FHP report, the crane on the trailer smashed into the Kennedy Boulevard overpass on I-275 South in Tampa Tuesday morning about 9 a.m. Tuesday.  The crane hit the concrete and left debris on the road.

The driver didn't stop, continuing south on the interstate towards the Howard Frankland bridge.

The debris on the roadway damaged the undercarriage of a Mazda that was behind the trailer. The driver of the car Elizabeth McLaughlin, 56, of Tampa, was not injured.

The southbound outside lane of I-275 was closed while crews cleaned debris off the roadway.

FHP troopers are asking drivers who have seen the crash to call 813-631-4020.
