Elite 8: Cortavious Givens | Admiral Farragut Academy RB/LB

He's a running back, and he's linebacker.

Cortavious Givens plays both positions for Admiral Farragut Academy. And he plays them well. "I think he's just a ballplayer," said Farragut coach Ryan Hearn. "No matter where you put him, he's going to be successful."

Here's the issue. More colleges are recruiting Givens to play linebacker, but he wants to carry the ball in college. "running back is just a little more fun," Givens said. "if you watch ESPN, you never hear linebackers getting credit. I like playing the position, but at running back, I just like getting that big run.

Only one school, Florida Atlantic, has offered Givens a scholarship to play running back, but he says more schools are interested. Some coaches are not convinced he has fully recovered from an ACL injury he suffered as a sophomore, so a lot is riding on how he performs in his senior season.

But Givens' ultimate goal is play running back for Florida or Florida State. "I just like how they develop players. Forget football. I'm just talking about developing a guy into a man," he said.

If Givens has to be a linebacker, it might make sense. His favorite player is one of the best ever to play the position: Ray Lewis. "That's my biggest idol," Givens said.
