Elite 8: Chase Litton | Wharton High QB

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Wharton High School's Chase Litton is the only quarterback in our Elite 8.

In June, Litton publicly committed to play for USF. But barely a month later, he changed his mind and decided to re-open his recruiting.

While he has no idea where he will attend college now, Litton is enjoying the life of being a highly sought after quarterback.

"I've met Nick Saban. I've met Les Miles. I've met all these guys people. Not a lot of kids my age can say they've done that," said Litton.

Not every high school kid is 6-6 with a throwing arm like Litton, who has started from Wharton since he was a freshman. He's been dubbed as the best high school quarterback in the area today.

"Our last spring game against [Tampa Bay Technical High School], their coach was saying, ‘Oh, best quarterback, huh?" Litton recalled. "You just laugh at stuff like that. You prove them wrong, and you shut them up."

As highly rated as Litton is as a football player, he may rank higher as a football video game player. "I'm pretty good. I don't want to toot my own horn, but in Madden, I was pretty good. I was actually nationally ranked," he said.

And when Litton is playing Madden, he always plays with the Panthers and quarterback Cam Newton.

There's a reason.

When Newton first went to college at Florida, he was arrested for stealing a laptop.

Litton can relate. As a sophomore, he was arrested for felony burglary. The charges were later dropped, but Litton looks at Newton's turnaround as an example he can follow. "We both made mistakes," Litton said. "To see him overcome that and to see the success he's had his rookie year, it's great to watch a guy like that."
