Elite 8: Justus Reed | Clearwater Central Catholic DE

Justus Reed is the only player in our Elite 8 playing his first year for a new school.

The defensive end transferred from Clearwater High to Clearwater Central Catholic High this season.

With scholarship offers from almost twenty different colleges, Florida offered Reed one in June.

Less than 48 hours after that, Reed was on a recruiting visit to North Carolina, where his father once played. "The whole entire time I was there, in the back of my mind was the offer from Florida," he said.

Shortly after, Reed committed to the Gators. "It just felt right. That's where I wanted to go ever since I got the offer from them," he said.

The Gators will be getting a great athlete, too. When Reed started high school, basketball was his primary sport. Around his sophomore year, he realized his future wasn't in dunking, but in tackling.

"He's still a young guy football-wise and very raw still," said CCC coach John Davis. "But the skill-set is certainly there, especially when you get the offers that he had

Reed will play both defensive end and wide receiver for CCC, and he plans to earn a few more victories there than he did in any of his three seasons at Clearwater High.

"I'm surrounded by a great group of guys so it makes it easier to come in and to transfer," said Reed. "It's a really good place to be."
