Three arrested in Pinellas jail smuggling bust

Posted: Updated:

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says they have arrested three people for smuggling in suboxone into the Pinellas County Jail by hiding the drug under postage stamps.

Deputies said that 29-year-old Kaitlyn Pergola of Trinity mailed the suboxone to two inmates inside the Pinellas County Jail who then turned around and sold the drugs to other inmates inside the jail.

Detectives began their investigation on August 1st and they say they intercepted 11 pieces of mail that had the drug concealed under the stamps. Detectives say the drug is referred to as "heroin in a breath strip."

Deputies say Pergola mailed the drugs to her boyfriend who they have identified as 30-year-old David Michael Gavin and his cellmate, 31-year-old Jermonte Rusell Rushing.

All three suspects have been charged with introduction/possession of contraband in a county detention facility. Deputies say Pergola was also charged with violating her probation for doctor shopping.
