DURHAM, N.C. -

As many as 400 job seekers were out of luck Monday when a job fair scheduled for Monday had, in fact, been announced as scheduled for the wrong day.

Despite the rain, many job seekers arrived at the Radisson hotel in the Research Triangle Park with resumes in hand for the National Career Fairs event.

"You do what you have to do to take care of your family," said Bobby Perry, one job seeker.

Sylvester Harold said he came from Buffalo for the event.

Telika Wiggan, one job seeker, said, "I have my PhD, so I really want to teach, but it's been very difficult."

But the left as quickly as they came.
"I just pulled up just now about two minutes ago and someone here in the parking lot told me," said Wiggan.

Ron Hunter of the Radisson said there was miscommunication on the scheduled date and the room scheduled for the meeting had been taken for another event.
"They're saying this just came to light at 9:30 this morning that this thing wasn't going to take off," Harold said. "I said, ‘Well, the person who dropped the ball on this should be out here with us looking for employment. Then, they'd see the seriousness of being unemployed.'"

Hunter said everyone was "very sorry" about the event and said, "We are trying to accommodate them in any ways we can. It's just an unfortunate mistake. We're not pointing fingers."

National Career Fairs admitted to the mistake and said the job fair will now be held Sept. 23.

"Its' a little discouraging but we'll stay positive," said Wiggan. "Because if a door closes, a window opens."
