Waste truck driver hits bicyclist in Tampa

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Tampa Police closed Hanna Avenue for hours Monday morning after a Tampa Solid Waste truck driver hit a bicyclist at the intersection with 24th Street, according to the police report.

Police say the waste truck driver was going east on Hanna Avenue, turning north at the intersection. The bicyclist, who police identify as a man in his 50s, was traveling west. The truck driver didn't notice the bicyclist and hit him.

Paramedics took the bicyclist to ST. Joseph's hospital in critical condition. TPD is investigating the accident.

Hanna Avenue from 23rd to 30th streets remained closed for a few hours.
