DURHAM, N.C. -

It's been a hometown hotspot for decades.

Honey's in Durham has been serving up great dishes with a "at-home" feel for 53 years. But on Sunday, they served their last guests.

Hundreds of people came out for a final meal and shared stories from years of sit-down meals together. Owner Buck Dickerson has kept it running 24 hours 7 days a week.

"It's been a tremendous ride, it's amazing the Lord would choose someone like me and bless me the way he has," Dickerson said.

So why is it closing?

Despite the restaurant's popularity, its lease is finally up. And with a prime spot next to I-85, Dickerson said the land owners have other plans with a price tag that Honey's can't compete with.

He says Honey's will be leveled and a McDonald's and a gas station will take its place.

But for those who hate to see it go, Dickerson had this to say, "It's the last chapter of this novel, but there's a sequel coming. We'll be back"

He said he has not yet found a new location for a new restaurant; but said sooner rather than later, they'll be ready to serve their customers once again.
