St. Pete mayor willing to talk Rays stadium with MLB

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) -

The Tampa Bay Rays are currently just two games back in the American League East Division standings.

However the team is 29th out of 30 major league teams in attendance.

Thursday Major League baseball commissioner Bud Selig told reporters he's troubled by the Rays attendance and he wants something done to move the Rays to a new stadium.

Selig says, "Years have ticked by now with no tangible progress to resolve this situation and frankly, coming from me, baseball needs a resolution to this problem."

St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster says he doesn't see it that way and says he is talking with the Rays owners about the situation, "I went into negotiations with the Rays in good faith and we've had great communication this year, this season," says Foster.

Foster says if Bud Selig wants to send a delegation to talk, he's willing to listen, "What can he do? I don't know, it's a big table. We got a big table, come on down we'll talk about the situation, but he needs to know there is no situation where I am going to jeopardize the interests of the taxpayers of St. Petersburg."
