Lakeland Police Detective Rick Gries is the latest officer to resign rather than face termination in connection with an ongoing sex scandal. The 10-year veteran officer submitted his letter of resignation today.
Gries is accused of having inappropriate contact with civilian LPD employee Sue Eberle.
"What we're dealing with today was on-duty behavior, inappropriate on-duty behavior and then some discrepancies in his statements," said Lakeland Police Chief Lisa Womack.
Also facing disciplinary action today were two City Hall employees. According to a report released by City Manager Doug Thomas, Lakeland Electric Maintenance Coordinator Bryan Fluke and I.T. Analyst Jose Diez both face three day, unpaid suspensions.
Fluke is accused of being untruthful during the investigation into his relationship with Eberle. Diez was disciplined for having inappropriate contact with a former LPD crime analyst named Tiffany Dwyer, according to city officials.
Four other city employees were named in the investigation, but they do not face discipline.
