Travel website: staycation is no more

Posted: Updated:

A travel booking website shared a survey about new vacation trends among Americans and it turns out, a staycation is no longer the thing to do.

According to the survey, 83 percent of the survey takers said they will leave home to go on vacation this year.

"Staycations were popular between 2007 and 2010, when economic uncertainty had many Americans concerned about their finances and their jobs," said Priceline's Travel Expert, Brian Ek.  "But anyone who's tried a staycation finds out very quickly that it's not very relaxing."

According to the website, the travelers stay very budget-conscious about their recreation time.

Over 30 percent of the survey takers said they had driven non-stop to their destination, and 11 percent admitted they slept in their cars sometimes to stay on budget.
