Deputies say Willow Spring home invasion, shooting not random

WILLOW SPRING, N.C. -

A Wake County man and his 13-year-old daughter were taken to the hospital after being shot in their home early Wednesday morning.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office said two men knocked on the door of Andrew Bass' home on Old Stage Road in Willow Spring around 1:45 a.m. Bass' 13-year-old daughter answered the door and was shot as the two men entered the trailer.

Bass was shot by the intruders after his daughter was shot, the sheriff's office said.

Authorities said both victims received non-life threatening injuries from the shooting. Bass was released from the hospital late Wednesday afternoon.

The sheriff's office does not believe the shooting is random but neighbors are still rattled by the early morning violence.

"I moved here in 2005 from Hawaii and I haven't seen any incidents of break-ins or violence or anything like that," said neighbor Mike Jones. "So, it's a surprise and concerning to me that it happened so close to where I live."

Law enforcement could be seen searching a pickup truck and food truck parked on the property.

The name and condition of the 13-year-old have not been released.
