Pasco Hit and Run Victim's family wants justice

ZEPHYRHILLS, FL (WFLA) -

Was it a hit and run accident or a cold blooded murder? That's what Dane Cody Prater's family members want to know. The Florida Highway Patrol says last Sunday morning, around 12:40; Prater was in the parking lot of the Zephyrhills Plaza on State Road 54 at the intersection of Coats Road, when a blue sport utility vehicle approached him and subsequently, ran over him. The driver then left the scene.

Dane's brother, who didn't want to be identified until the driver is caught, says he spoke with a witness who was there that morning. She told him Dane was sitting outside of the Cheers 54 Pub when a blue late model Chevy Blazer approached. "And he stood up, leaned into the window and was talking to them. I don't know what they were talking about, she said they were just talking for about thirty seconds and they hit the gas. " Dane died at the scene.

His brother says the family just wants justice. They believe this was much more than an accident. "We want justice. That's what we want. We have, we have, I don't want revenge on anybody, but I would like to see, I would like to know that my brother didn't die in vain. I want justice. Want to find out what really happened, you know? "

He describes Dane as a great guy, who was his best friend. "And this was, I don't know the full details, but this was someone just carelessly, like disregard for his life. Like he was amazing. He was my best friend. Really. He was my brother, my best friend. "

The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for anyone with any information concerning this case to call (813) 631-4020.
