Electronics added to tax free shopping this weekend

Posted: Updated:

With only a few weeks left until school starts back up, families are hitting the aisles at Walmart in Brandon searching for school supplies.

Starting at midnight Friday through Sunday, the state will wave the taxes on many items to get your kids prepared for the first day of school.

Kayla Whaling is a spokeswoman for Walmart. She says shoppers might be surprised by what has been added to the list of tax free items.

"This is the first year that Florida is including electronics as part of the sales tax free holiday and so some of our laptops here would fit into that category," Whaling said.

You can also get computer accessories like keyboards, mouse and printers without paying the tax.

Along with computers, tablets and e-readers are also on the electronics list.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are restrictions to the tax free holiday.

For apparel, the limit is 75 dollars per single item. For electronics, the limit is 750 dollars per item and for school supplies the limit is 15 dollars per single item.

Walmart is not the only retailer expecting a big turn out for the tax free savings.

Best Buy is planning on opening early and bringing in extra staff.
