RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh police made an arrest in the May 2012 death of a 63-year-old man who died from injuries sustained during an assault.

On April 27, 2012, Larry Kenneth Allen was transported to WakeMed for treatment of injuries that appeared to have resulted from an accidental fall, police said. Raleigh police did not investigate the incident since the injuries were accidental.

Allen died on May 2, 2012 as a result from the injuries sustained from the fall. On that same day, Raleigh police received a tip that the fall was not an accident, authorities said.

An autopsy performed on Allen determined his death was a homicide.

Raleigh police said an investigation led to the arrest of Teddy Ray Melvin Jr., 24, Wednesday.

The crime was not a random act and authorities are still investigating, police said.

Melvin is being held in the Wake County Detention Center.
