Polk boy dies after towed inner tube hits dock

Posted: Updated:
WINTER HAVEN, FL (WFLA) -

A tragic weekend Jet Ski/Tubing accident has claimed the life of a Winter Haven boy.

10-year old Hunter Gonzalez died Sunday afternoon of injuries from the accident.

Gonzalez had been tubing with family and friends Saturday afternoon at Lake Lulu in Winter Haven when his inner tube hit a dock.

28-year-old Juan Nunez, of Winter Haven, was operating a red and silver, 2004 Polaris MSX 140 jet ski while towing an inner tube with 31-year-old David Landazuri, 10-year-old Hunter Gonzalez, and 9-year-old Javier Nunez.

Juan Nunez made a right turn on the jet ski which caused the tube and those on it to crash into a dock.

Polk County Sheriff's marine deputies say the investigation is ongoing.  Investigators say at this time impairment does not appear to be a factor; and the incident appears accidental.

31-year-old David Landazuri remains in critical condition at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

9-year-old Javier Nunez is listed in stable condition at Tampa General Hospital.
