Daytime Southeastern Guide Dogs

Posted: Updated:
  • Southeastern Guide Dogs organization is in need of puppy raisers in the Tampa Bay area along with Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, NC, and Houston, TX – these volunteers get the puppies when they are 9-10 weeks old and are responsible to teaching basic obedience and exposing them to all aspects of life. They return the dogs to us when they are approximately 18 months old to begin their formal harness training.
  • When the dogs come back on campus, their first stop is the Assessment Kennel – we are beginning construction soon on a new Assessment Center thanks to Keith G. Hirst and the community who accepted his challenge of raising $1 million to build the new center (Keith matched donations of $500,000) - now we are in the midst of the Hirst 90-Day Challenge to outfit the new center with all the essential fixtures and equipment needed to properly assess the dogs as they begin their training.
  • Ride for the Guide – Andrew , a local teacher from Tampa Prep, is biking across the US to raise funds and awareness of Southeastern Guide Dogs. He left Bar Harbor, Maine on May 25th and will arrive in Seattle, WA on August 1st (he has to be back at school 8/8.) This is a great example of how someone is doing something they love to benefit us.
