Posted: Updated:

Officers say a drunk driver led them on a 13-minute high speed chase through Elizabethton and Carter County that ended when the man crashed his car.

Carter County Sheriff's Department Capt. Patrick Johnson says Benjamin Michael Cole now faces several charges as a result of the chase including three counts of aggravated assault, four counts of reckless endangerment, second offense driving under the influence and evading arrest.

According to Capt. Johnson, it started just before three o'clock this morning in Hampton when officers tried to stop the 29 year-old along Highway 19E.

Cole is accused of escaping from police, avoiding spike strips and leading officers on a chase that ended when the man crashed his car on Old Bristol Highway.

In a matter of just 13 minutes, officers say the man rammed and caused minor damage to a sheriff's cruiser, police patrol car and another driver's car.

According to Capt. Johnson, luckily no one was injured.

Capt. Johnson says the pursuit involved seven officers: three from the Elizabethton Police Department, three from the Carter County Sheriff's Department and one from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
