Disabled elderly woman robbed near Tampa convenience store

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Tampa police need the public's help locating a man they say robbed a disabled elderly woman.

The victim, 75-year-old Barbara Felder, was leaving a convenience store on North 40th Street when the suspect walked up to her and offered to carry her grocery bags.

Felder refused and continued to walk away from the suspect. Officials say when the suspect tried to snatch the grocery bags from the victim, Felder fought off the suspect with her cane.

Investigators say the suspect had confronted the victim several times. On the final attempt, the suspect displayed a knife, before grabbing the groceries from the elderly woman's hands.

According to Tampa police, the suspect took the victim's wallet from one of the bags before leaving the area on a black bike.

"The disabled woman is currently living in a motel and the suspect stole the only money she had to pay for housing and food," according to a press statement.

Police are looking for a black male between the ages of 25 and 40, 5'11-6'1" with a goatee and afro. The suspect was last seen wearing a green basketball jersey, blue jeans, black sneakers and a baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130.
