Dr. Kevin Campbell Dr. Kevin Campbell

Dr. Kevin Campbell appears every Wednesday morning on WNCN Today. He will also provide a special one-minute guide to healthy living each week for WNCN.com.

Here, Dr. Campbell gives you five tips for treating sunburn:

  1. Take pain medications early - Taking Tylenol, ibuprofen, etc as soon as you notice the sunburn can significantly lessen the pain you experience.
  2. Use topical creams - Use creams made for burn and pain relief that include aloe.
  3. Avoid dehydration - Drinking lots of water can speed recovery and limit skin damage.
  4. Shower in lukewarm water - Taking a shower in hot or cold water can intensify pain and make the burn worse.
  5. Use lots of skin moisturizers - Applying skin moisturizer can limit post burn pain and deliver much needed aid to damaged skin.
