LAKELAND, FL (WFLA) -

The city of Lakeland confirmed Wednesday morning, three more members of Mayor Gow Fields' Citizens Advisory Commission have resigned.

The commission will be tasked with giving city commissioners and leaders advice on how to improve the "speak up" culture within the Lakeland Police Department amidst the recent scandals as well as the "speak up" culture within the community, as Gow Fields explained.

Dr. Anne Kerr, President of Florida Southern College, Dr. Kent Ingle, President of Southeastern University and Elaine Thompson, CEO of Lakeland Regional Medical Center have all tendered their resignations from the once 15-member panel.

A city spokeswoman says Kerr and Ingle both submitted letters of resignation while Thompson phoned the mayor personally to resign.

In Kerr's letter she expressed concerns that co-chairs Eileen Holden from Polk State College and Joe P. Ruthven a former Lakeland mayor had resigned and that "a group of fifteen individuals will require more time reaching consensus without their leadership".

Holden and Ruthven submitted resignation letters to the mayor on Monday.

There are now 10 members remaining on the commission which is set to meet for the first time Thursday at City Hall at 3:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.
